Lincoln "L" Technical Questions

We are replacing the broken right axle. A piece of the axle is sitting in the axle tube near the diff case. The piece won't come out of the axle tube toward the outside as the diameter of the broken piece is flared a little due to the shear forces, and the outside end of the axle tube is too small. So we're aiming to take the piece out through the differential. We heard that unbolting the bearing retainers would release the ring gear / spider gear assembly. But so far the ring gear / spider gear assembly is not coming out. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

I assume that you have gotten out the other axle. I believe that you are correct that once you have taken off the bolts and race retainers the ring gear assemble should come out. The bearing cups may be wedged in the carrier and need some persuasion to release the ring gear assembly.

Well, we figured it out. We got the ring gear out, and got the broken axle piece out of the axle tube too. The trick was to rotate the ring gear slightly as we pulled it out, allowing the angled gear teeth to move....

Now we're on a search for a 1930 passenger side axle. Measuring the length of that axle as ~33-1/8". Apparently it's not the same length as the '28 or '29? Mike Barrett offered us several, but doesn't have the correct version. Just asked another Lincoln guy to look for us... Joe Rogers in Pennsylvania. He's going to look in his inventory this coming Monday.
