hi speed gears in a Model L
John Kelso

Would it be beneficial to put hi speed gears in my 1924 model L, We enjoy driving it but live among the mountains. Opinions needed please. thanks

Hi, John. There are several people in the club who'd know better than I. Joe Rogers is the master of this kind of stuff--reachable at 610-716-1619 (Pa). Ray Theriault is also very knowledgeable, 860-919-1821 (CT). I am amazed at how far back they go with Lincolns, as do many of our members. The forum is too rarely used. Hope to see you at Hershey!

Hi John,

If you are going to do mostly 2 lane road driving at speeds below 50mph then the standard gears are fine, in fact better if you are climbing mountains.

High speed gears are good for flat or rolling country but even then you don't want too low a ratio.

There is a set of HS gears advertised in the F&B #4 right now.

Thanks for your thoughts. I sometimes forget I need to drive like its 1924 and want to go faster. Then I remember I've only got two wheel brakes and a really heavy car.

I had them in my 28 7p Sport Touring. I didn't like them. I'd rather not bog down on hills that you could otherwise cruise right up. But that's just me.

My 29 "Squad Car" Fire Truck doesn't have them and it's the most fun car I've ever had. It goes like a bat out of hell! Again, only my viewpoint.
