Leak around exhaust head stud
Author Last Post
That's great to hear. Enjoy!
Gosh I hope not. I have annealed a copper washer and a high grade nut. This seems to have worked, but I have ordered some of the high temp sealant you suggested, and if this does not hold will try that. Compression good and had it up to 65 mph with no problems this weekend. Many thanks for the reply!!!
I wonder if you have a cracked head? The other thing you could try is one of the exhaust pastes on the market.
It is not the manifold facings (I have replaced/repaired those). It is actually coming from around a head bolt stud- this stud runs through the exhaust manifold chamber
I assume you have tried tightening the nuts.

Rust and wear on the mating surfaces of exhaust manifolds is a common problem on model L lincoln. the age combined with the exhaust wears away at the surface until its no longer smooth. This is probably the problem. I would think that taking the manifold off making some effort to restore the mating surface and replacing it with new gaskets would be the best choice.

I am running into an annoying problem on my 29-L. A head stud that exits at the top and runs through the exhaust manifold, develops a leak when I reach warm operating temperatures. Which is all the time here in the South. It will go away when engine cools and of course is pretty annoying when going up a hill or load. Has anyone else encountered this problem? My valves are good, compression is good, runs great. I am thinking of annealing a thick copper washer and use a standard high torque head bolt, rather than the stainless crown bolt.

If this is a problem others have run into, please let me know. I may also machine something to fix this (sleeved stainless bolt) and happy to make more for others.
