HELP !!! 31 K Transmission Problems
Author Last Post
Hi Everyone,

I have a Beautiful 31 K Coupe and have been enjoying driving it this year until...... My transmission Locked up on me. It has happened now twice and I do not know why it is happening. It has been very easy to get it unlocked, but it requires me to take the top of the case off each time. Upon inspection of the internals, it all looks to be in Great shape wondering if anyone has had this experience or have some input to help. I am wanting to drive it much more, but I'm scared to get it out on the road for any distance now.

So this is whats happening. I have noticed that I will hear some slight gear grinding while starting out in 1st gear periodically. But not every time I start out in 1st. So when I do hear the grinding, thats when I have the possibility of the lock up. I will start out in first and then I cannot move the shift lever out of 1st to go to the next gear. basically stuck in 1st. but then when I stop or slow down to stop the transmission locks up and my rear axle will not turn. each time I have opened the case I find that it is in 2 gears at once. It will be in 1st gear and 2nd gear at the same time. I have not idea how that is even possible. The shift lever seams to work as it should. I have noticed that if I omit 1st gear completely while driving it, I don't hear the grinding and I think that I could drive it like that without a problem, but I don't know for sure. Is there any adjustment to the shifting forks that move the gear clusters?

I'm hoping I don't have to rebuild the whole thing. The car had a concours restoration completed in 1996 and has very little mileage on it since. Please call me at 713-992-1086 or email me at leadsled49@yahoo.com. Thanks for your help Michael Riley
