rear axle wheel bearings
Author Last Post
Agree. I have copied this info down in my Lincoln repair log book. Very grateful for sending this along.
Many Thanks for posting this bearing info. Every Lincoln "L" owner needs this info.
Sorry for the delay, haven't checked the forma for a while.
Front wheel tapered roller bearings:
Larger (inner brg K-6608-AR and K-6610-AR, Timken 412 and 419) were replaced with #22720 (cup $31.15)) with the addition of a spacer 0.344" thick (ID 2.80, OD 3.250 chamfer on one corner). Cone #22778 ($142.66) with no spacers or modification required.

Smaller (outer brg K-6609-AR and K-6611-AR, Timken 312 and 316) were replaced with #3120 (cup $26.48) and cone #3191 ($84.69) no spacers or modifications required.

These prices may be in CDN$ don't remember. The cups and cones are generally shorter in length than the originals but they function as required except for the one noted spacer.

Would you please post the numbers of the specific bearings you used?
I would be interested in the details.
Thanks
I had one bearing on the front that had been overloaded and cogged. I replaced both bearing with available units using spacers. Can give you the details if still required.
I found all the bearing in stock here.

The front wheel bearings are 2 different pairs of Timken cup+cone
Inner: cup 412, OD=3.250" W=1.185";  cone 419, ID=1.625", W=1.145" (the 419 was in production in 1985, not 412)

Outer: cup 312,OD=2.859", W=.977; Cone 316,ID=1.1875, w=?

Both of these Timken sets are obsolete, no longer in production.  I was able to obtain all 4 pieces from Vintage Auto Parts, in Denver, Colorado in 2009. Phone 877 882 7462.   web site: VAPinc.com   Beware not to order a 419T or 316T, as the T indicates a tapered bore.

The inner set is an oddball - the original cup is 412M, which is ~5/16" wider toward the small diameter of the taper, which moves the front wheel hub outward.. to fit a standard 412 cup, I made a spacer ring to make up the difference. PDF drawing attached. Not shown on the drawing is a hacksaw cut through the ring at one point, that makes it a nice push fit into the wheel hub.

I have researched a modern Timken pair for the outer set: 3120/3191, (ID and OD will fit) but have not done a detail layout analysis.

Good Luck -
Does anybody know the size of the front bearings?
While we are on the subject of bearings, I removed the rear wheels on my 1924 L and found the inner wheel bearing race cracked. For those who are interested, the races are timken 3720 and the cones are timken 375. Two each per side and still readily available.
